Our teaching teams are made up of professional musicians, composers and audio engineers. Thus, our teaching method utilizes the professional experiences of our instructors as well as the cultural experiences of our students.

The California Arts Council’s mission is to advance California through the arts and creativity. The The Arts and Public Media Grant program supports multiplatform nonprofit media projects that demonstrate a clear approach to building public awareness and support for the arts. The program is rooted in the California Arts Council's vision to create a state where the arts are a central component of daily life and accessible to all, reflecting contributions from all of California's diverse populations and fostering civic engagement.
With support from the California Arts Council, In The Band will continue offering music instruction two days per week at the IMPACTO After School Program at Aliso Pico Recreation Center (APRC). Funding will be used to support our teaching artists. By bringing our culturally-relevant, after-school mobile music program directly to schools and community centers, In The Band has taught the fundamentals of musicianship to more than 18,000 underserved youth, ages 5 - 19 in over 130 locations.
We are excited to announce that some of our In the Band (FKA SoundArt) students accompanied the legend himself, Roger Waters, on stage during his Los Angeles Tour dates.
Roger Waters is a founding member of progressive rock band Pink Floyd. It is In the Band’s pleasure to have our students perform at all three of his Staples Center dates on June 20, 21, and 27, 2017. This is truly an unforgettable moment of collaboration for our organization.
For WATERS' L.A. three-date run of shows, an ensemble of 10- to 15-year-old students from ALISO PICO RECREATION CENTER (BOYLE HEIGHTS), VIEW PARK HIGH SCHOOL (SOUTH L.A.), and ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC SCHOOL (GLASSELL PARK) were chosen to perform "Another Brick in the Wall." The group of 15 In the Band musicians sang background vocals and performed choreography.

This gives In the Band students the opportunity to participate in the highest level of stage production with a true legend!"
Thank you to the California Community Foundation for the new grant award! The CCF’s mission is to lead positive systemic change that strengthens Los Angeles communities. They envision a future where all Angelenos have the opportunity to contribute to the productivity, health and well-being of our region. They believe that our common fate will be determined by how successfully we improve the quality of life for all of our residents. The impact we help create is of, by and for Los Angeles, because the community is our foundation. We are excited to be the recipient of their 2018 grant program.
In the Band's View Park High School band "Awoke" performed a set of original and cover songs at the Museum of Contemporary Art's (MOCA) annual Teen Night in downtown Los Angeles. The band was honored to be apart of the event and share the music they have been working on throughout the school year.
Inspired by Don’t Look Back: The 1990s at MOCA, Teen Night is created by teens for teens, exploring the vibrant legacy of the 1990s that shapes culture today. MOCA Teen Night 2016 will challenge teens’ perception of the 1990s, a time of both artistic growth and sociopolitical progress. Teen Night is for high school students; it includes free admission to Don’t Look Back: The 1990s at MOCA, art making activities, live performances, refreshments, and a student art exhibition.
